“Bet On Black”- Black Knights Impress At James Orr

Robbinsville hosted one of the longest running tournaments in the state on Saturday, and More than a dozen schools made the journey to Graham County over the weekend to compete in the James Orr Memorial Invitational. However, none of them were able to knock off the home team as Robbinsville held their ground and won the tournament by more than 60 points.

Top 5 Team Scores are as follows-

1. Robbinsville 206.0

2. Uwharrie Charter 145.0

3. Swain 111.5

4. Cherryville

5. West Oak

The Black Knights had 11 wrestlers place in the top 4, including 7 finalists and 4 champions.

Alexis Panama (106), Kyle Fink (182), Kage Williams (195), and Ben Wachacha (220) all took home first place in their respective weight classes.

Aynsely Fink (113), Jayden Nowell (132), and Carlos Wesley (HWT) all finished second, and Nowell earned his 100th pin of his high school career- only 3 shy of tying the school record!

Avery Phillips (120), Zane Lucksavage (138) and Jacob Hall (160) fought back for a 3rd place finish, and Jaret Panama (152) came in 4th in his weight class.

Knights Head Coach Todd Odom said in a Facebook post after the tournament-

I’m extremely, extremely proud of how we wrestled, how we competed, and how tough we are and were. It’s a great day to be a Black Knight I can tell ya that. We are looking forward to the weeks to come.

The Black Knights will wrestle one more match on Wednesday at Swain County for the regular season Conference Title, and then Saturday will bring us the SMC Tournament.
