Graham Man Killed in Alleged Family Dispute; Suspect Arrested

GRAHAM, N.C. — A local man was fatally shot in his home Tuesday night, prompting authorities to arrest a suspect in connection with the incident, officials said.
According to the Graham Police Department, 34-year-old Thomas Jeffries Jr. was found dead at his residence on Poplar Street after officers responded to a report of a shooting just before 10 p.m. Responding deputies described the scene as “chaotic,” with multiple family members present at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say the incident stemmed from a family dispute, though specific details about the argument have not been released.
A suspect, 59-year-old James Thomas Daye, has been taken into custody and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Daye is being held at the Graham County Detention Center pending a court appearance.
“This is a tragic situation that has impacted multiple families in our community,” said a spokesperson for the Graham Police Department. “Our officers acted quickly, and we will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this case.”
Neighbors described the area as quiet and said they were shocked by the violence. “I never imagined something like this would happen here,” said one resident, who asked to remain anonymous.
