Robbinsville Rolls Past Hayesville, 49-0

 

HAYESVILLE — Robbinsville had been knocking on the door the last couple of weeks. Friday night, the Black Knights finally kicked it in.

 

After dropping back-to-back games by three points or less, Robbinsville opened Smoky Mountain Conference play with a convincing 49-0 win over Hayesville. The victory was the first of the season for the Black Knights, who improved to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

 

Robbinsville didn’t waste much time taking control.

 

Cameron Allison connected with Benton Gibby for an 18-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Gibby struck again a little less than two minutes later, breaking loose for a 46-yard touchdown run to give Robbinsville a 14-0 first-quarter lead.

 

The Black Knights broke the game open in the second quarter.

 

Braydon Lane scored from four yards out to make it 21-0. Allison then found Xamuel Wachacha for a four-yard touchdown, and later connected with Tucker Jones for a 15-yard score, sending Robbinsville to the locker room with a 35-0 advantage.

 

Robbinsville’s defense got into the scoring in the third quarter when Elijah Kirkland returned a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown.

 

Wachacha finished things off with a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make it 49-0. Zander Lucksavage was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points.

 

It was Robbinsville’s most complete performance of the young season. The Black Knights scored touchdowns through the air, on the ground and on defense while holding Hayesville to just four first downs.

 

Hayesville quarterback Lance Coker completed 6-of-16 passes for 63 yards but was intercepted twice. Crow Collins led the Yellow Jackets with two catches for 27 yards, while Carson Finn was held to two rushing yards on four carries.

 

The shutout was a big step forward for a Robbinsville team that opened the year with four straight losses, including a 14-11 loss to Mountain Heritage and a 14-13 loss at Mitchell in its previous two games.

 

The Black Knights may be 0-4 outside the conference, but after Friday night they’re 1-0 in the games that count toward the SMC standings.

 

Robbinsville travels to Andrews next Friday night, while Hayesville will host Rosman.
