Robbinsville High School sent an unprecedented 7 wrestlers to compete in the North Carolina High School 1A State Wrestling Championships this weekend. 5 of those 7 came away with a ring. Luke Wilson, Jayden Nowell, Kage Williams, Kyle Fink and Ben Wachacha all won State Titles in their respective weight classes!
106lb- Luke Wilson beat Rosewood’s Jason Kennedy 7-4
126lb- Jayden Nowell pinned Tim Freeze of South Davidson
182lb- Kage Williams won 8-0 over Dalton Towe of Avery County
195lb- Kyle Fink pinned Maliek Bryant of North Stanley in the first period
220lb- Ben Wachacha won 3-2 (!!!) over Zack Vance of Avery County
In the 285lb weight class, Carlos Wesley fell in the semi-finals, but defeated Naquian Carpenter of Albemarle to earn a 3rd Place finish.
All of the wrestlers that competed had very interesting days, but perhaps no one’s day was sweeter than Luke Wilson’s. Last year, Wilson was defeated by Heaven Fitch in the 106lb NCHSAA State Championship Final. This year, he was able to avenge that loss and defeat Fitch in overtime in the semi-finals.
Another thing worth noting is that Kyle Fink also secured his 100th career victory earlier in the day.
