The Robbinsville Black Knights basketball programs traveled to Swain on Tuesday night. It was their first conference games of the year. The girl’s team to no surprise dominated and had the game won by midway through the second quarter. While the boy’s game was very tight until a third-quarter run by Swain gave them a double-digit lead that would carry them to victory.
The Lady Knights have not shown that the late start has bothered them whatsoever. In fact, maybe that extra practice time has made them even better which is a scary thought for opponents. Robbinsville held Swain to just six points in both the first and second quarter. While Robbinsville was lighting it up on the other end. Going into halftime Robbinsville led 46-12. The second half was merely a formality with Robbinsville simply cruising to victory 56-28. Robbinsville got a typical big night from Desta Trammell who had 18 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. She got help from Kensley Phillips who had 17 points to go along with Zoie Shuler and Yeika Jimenez having six each.
The game started out looking like it could be a very tight battle. In fact, the Black Knights led the Maroon Devils 20-19 after one quarter. Swain would go on to continue their high-scoring output having no less than 17 in a quarter. Unfortunately, the Black Knights offense wasn’t bad but just could keep up in the high-scoring affair. Getting outscored in the second and third quarters by a total of 17 points. Even though Robbinsville would outscore Swain in the fourth quarter the deficit was too much to overcome. Swain high scoring offense would put up 81 points and Robbinsville only managed 67. The Black Knights got big games though from Xander Wachacha who had 22 points, Eddie Brooms who had 17 points, and Brock Adams who had 12 points.
