Robbinsville Falls To Rabun Gap, Shows Flashes Of Success In Loss
Uncategorized September 25, 2023Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles @ Robbinsville Black Knights
After 2 quarters of going toe-to-toe with the number 1 team in North Carolina, the Black Knights eventually gassed out and were unable to stop the dominant Rabun Gap Eagles, who baloasted a roster with 16 Division-1 recruits. Robbinsville was impressive in the first half, holding the Eagles to just 2 scores. Depth and raw talent eventually won out as Rabun went back to Georgia with a 36-0 victory, but you can bet the Eagles felt the remnants of some hard nosed play from Robbinsville when they woke up Saturday morning.
Team Notes
QB Donovan Carpenter finished 11/19 for 73 yards and an INT passing and tallied just 21 yards on the ground. The usually dominant Cuttler Adams finished with just 57 yards on 16 carries this one and he led the defense with 12 tackles and he recorded an INT. As a team, Robbinsville would finish with four TFLs.
The bright spots for Robbinsville in this one were the DLine and the flashes we saw in the passing game. Darion Ledbetter is going to give Smoky Mountain Conference DBacks fits this year, and Donovan Carpenter looks poised in the pocket when he’s asked to make a play. Don’t look too much into the lack of success in the running game, Rabun was 6″3′ 230lbs+ across the DLine.
As for Robbinsvilles Dline, they were able to get penetration at times vs one of the top offensive lines in the state.
As for the Eagles, QB Gavin Owens looked solid as he lit up the Black Knights secondary. He finished 19/26 for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Sr. Trey Horne was Owens’ favorite target as the stud WR would finish with four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Joshua Buckhalter was the recipient of the other passing touchdown. Sr. RB Tyrell Campbell led the ground game with 110 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee’s defense would finish with 14.5 TFLs with Jr. DE Hector Gonzaleza recorded four of them.
Looking Ahead
Robbinsville will open up their conference schedule with a road trip to Cherokee to take on the 4-1 Braves. The Eagles who now sit at 6-0 on the season will travel to Charlotte to take on 4-1 Charlotte Christian.
