Tenacious D- Robbinsville’s Stingy Defense Helps The Knights Advance To Round 3

Graham County, NC- Defense wins championships. You see that phrase plastered all over the walls of every high school gym across the country. But, for the Black Knights, it isn’t just a saying, it’s the truth.

While the offense and star running back Cuttler Adams have been breaking records, the Robbinsville defense has been putting up numbers themselves.

Through 12 games, the Knights Defense has allowed less than 13 points per game and added 21 takeaways during the same time frame- the most in the Smoky Mountain Conference.

With 2-way players littered across the board, most of the kids on the Robbinsville sidelines play offense and defense, making what they’ve done this season even more impressive.

Mountain Island Charter found out what real Mountain football was all about last night in the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs. The MIC high-flying offense came into last nights game averaging 28 points per game and 424 yards of offense, but the Robbinsville defense reared it’s ugly head and held them to just 7 points and 262 total yards while adding three takeaways in their 40-7 route of the Raptors.

Robbinsville will lean on their defense once again in round 3 of the playoffs, where they will likely see a rematch with conference foe and SMC runner-up Swain County.
