Hiwassee Dam, NC – Monday, May 13th, the Black Knights and the Bulldogs took the field at Hiwassee Dam High School in a winner-take-all Smoky Mountain Conference Championship game. This was the rubber match between the two teams as they had beaten up on each other earlier in the year, each winning a road game in the 2 game regular season series.
Robbinsville was able to jump out to an early lead as Hyde singled in the top of the first, scoring Orr and Gibby.
The Dogs fought back and tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a Carter Adams homerun and an error in the inning.
The Knights took the lead for good in the top of the fifth with a solo shot of their own, as Shuler homered to left field.
Robbinsville would go on to win the game 4-2 and claim the Smoky Mountain Conference Middle School baseball Championship.
Orr earned the win for Robbinsville on the mound, surrendering five hits and two runs (1 earned), over seven innings. Orr also struck out 10 bulldog batters on the evening.
Konner Dockery fanned 10 Robbinsville hitters in his seven innings on the bump for Murphy, but it wasn’t enough to earn the win. Dockery allowed 10 hits, 4 runs and zero walks to go with his 10 strikeouts.
Gibby, Shuler, and Pollard all collected multiple hits for the Knights at the plate while Orr, Hyde, Brooks, and Nelms all had one hit a piece. Hyde led the team with 2 Runs Batted In.
The Dogs were led by Carter Adams at the plate, as the number 9 hitter went 2-3 on the day.
