Robbinsville is headed to the state championship.
Behind a big day at the plate from Ella Nelms and another complete team performance, the Lady Knights punched their ticket to the NCHSAA 1A State Championship with a 6-1 win Friday at Summerfield.
Robbinsville wasted no time taking control. In the top of the first, Nelms ripped a two-run double to give the Black Knights an early spark and a 2-0 lead. One inning later, Kynadee Spencer added to the advantage with an RBI double that pushed the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Knights kept the momentum rolling in the third when Dreylee Webster lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 4-0, and from there Robbinsville stayed firmly in command.
Nelms went the distance in the circle, striking out eight while allowing just one run as the Black Knights continued their postseason run with another strong performance.
At the plate, Robbinsville pounded out 12 hits. Nelms and Sophie Roberts led the charge with three hits each, while Spencer and Nelms both drove in two runs. The Black Knights also stayed aggressive on the bases, swiping five steals during the game.
Defensively, Robbinsville played one of its cleanest games of the postseason, finishing without an error. Webster led the way defensively with nine chances handled in the field.
Bethany Community’s lone run came late, but the Wolves never seriously threatened as Robbinsville stayed in control from the opening inning to the final out.
Now, the Black Knights are one step away from bringing home a state title as they advance to next week’s NCHSAA 1A State Championship series.
